http://educate-yourself.org/cs/acsilverwater.shtmlFour different products are marketed as colloidal silver (silver water). Their correct descriptions are:
1. Electro-colloidal silver
2. Mild silver protein
3. Dissolved silver "salts"
4. Dissolved "powdered" silverAll of these products work, to one degree or another, as a broad spectrum germicide because they all contain microscopic particles of SILVER. That said, it is important to understand that:
1) all of these products are not "colloidal suspensions" of silver,
2) these products do NOT all behave the same in the human body or in laboratory tests,
3) effectiveness and dosage varies from product to product,
4) quality varies from product to product and from batch to batch with the same product, and
5) they are NOT all uniformly safe and non-toxic. There are no industry standards that manufacturers voluntarily follow to assure quality control and there is no governmental regulation of the industry.Of the four types, only electro-colloidal silver is a true colloidal suspension of extremely fine particles of silver in water. It can be produced with a low voltage DC electrolysis method or a high voltage AC (HVAC) electrolysis method.
Low Voltage DC Silver Colloid (Colloidal Silver or CS)
The low voltage DC form of electro colloidal silver is the type found in health food stores and from most web sites. If made with distilled water of adequate colloid concentration, it should have a golden yellow color and is usually available in a concentration range of 3-10 parts per million (ppm), sometimes slightly higher. Some manufacturers print very high ppm concentrations on the labels of their DC colloidal silver bottles such as 500 ppm or 1100 ppm. Such claims may or may not be accurate. 500 ppm is visually quite thick and appears almost opaque. 1100 ppm is opaque and you can't shine a laser pen beam from one side of the bottle to the other side. Next time you go to the health food store and examine bottles of colloidal silver, bring along one of our mini laser pens and see if the beam gives you a laser "track" through the colloid. Thicker the track, higher the concentration of silver colloid. If you pick up a bottle that advertises 1100 ppm and can shine the beam clear through the bottle, there is no way there can 1100 ppm concentration of silver particles in that bottle.High Voltage AC Silver Colloid (HVAC)
High voltage AC colloidal silver contains much smaller particles with a higher charge density than conventional DC colloidal silver. The particles are so small, in fact, that they do not register using a standard laboratory spectroscopy analysis. The solution appears crystal clear. Many researchers have suggested that AC colloidal silver is a mono atomic form , meaning that the silver particles are as small as one atom of silver. Concentration of AC colloidal silver is conveniently measured using a TDS meter and is indicated as ppm "TDS". Field reports suggest that AC colloidal silver may afford deeper tissue penetration and greater germicidal activity for certain deep rooted pathogens such as the Herpes virus which can hide in the nerve ganglion at the base of the spine when not in an active infection cycle. One researcher has found that a 21 day protocol consisting of 1/2 oz. of HVAC silver colloid taken every hour for 8 hours each day, coupled with proper nutrition and detoxifying efforts, as well as complete abstinence from alcohol, will reduce Hep C viral loads from one half million viral particles (PCR) down to less than one hundred viral particles in about 3 weeks. This efficacy and results are unmatched by any conventional protocol aimed at controlling serious cases of Hep C.
Much more remains to be known about the full therapeutic possibilities offered by HVAC silver colloid.
