'I Grabbed a Pulsating Light'

ADAM THE HEALER: The teen Ronnie Hawkins credits with curing his cancer reveals how he heals

To his friends he's just Adam. But in the world of alternative healing, he's the 17-year-old "energy healer" who cured rock 'n' roll legend Ronnie Hawkins of terminal pancreatic cancer. Hundreds of sick people now flock to the Vancouver teen's group healings. Many others contact him through his Web site www.dreamhealer.com seeking treatment from afar -- all he needs is their picture.

A U.S. production company is negotiating with his parents to do a TV series about him. And Adam? When freelance writer Catharine Tamas recently sat down with him, she found a regular kid eager to learn more about his gift.

CT: When did you first recognize that you could heal people?

ADAM: With my mom who had MS. I put my hand over her head and found myself inside her head. I couldn't see anything else in the room, I was just navigating throughout her body from the inside out. I saw this green sac of pulsating light. I didn't know what to do with it, so I grabbed it and pulled it into me. Her pain went away, I took on her pain. That was the first healing I did. I was 14.

CT: What do you mean by "going inside"? What do you see, what happens?

ADAM: It's like a computer screen in front of you, like in Minority Report with Tom Cruise -- you know, where he's moving flat screens around?
From there it's a 3-D image of the person, a hologram, and I can split it off into layers. I see organs moving, the heart pumping.

When I do a treatment, small changes take place. It's not like I see this tumour in front of me on the hologram and if I grab it and rip it out, physically that tumour has been ripped out. There are small changes on the cellular level, on the molecular level, and these changes are enough to weaken the cancer and direct the immune system to it.

CT: What happens during group healings?

ADAM: I get everyone to connect their auras. Once they're at the same frequency with each other, I run the same amount of energy through them all, this intense energy just rips through everything. At the same time, they're all visualizing as a group. Everyone is helping everyone else.

CT: Could the hope you give be stimulating people's immune systems fight the illness?

ADAM: Placebo effect just shows how powerful the mind is. But there are many healings that are not placebo effect. For example, there was a guy who was in a coma for six months. He was totally non-responsive. I told his family I would be doing a distance treatment at 7 p.m. And at 7 p.m. his muscles started twitching, his eyes opened and he was able to communicate with everyone around him. He's now constantly improving and in rehab.

CT: What's your response to the doctors who say maybe RonnieHawkins didn't have cancer?

ADAM: From what I hear from the reports, [doctors] went in and there was a large mass. The fact is, it doesn't matter whether it was cancerous or not. There was a tumour there and after my treatments it was gone. He was told it was terminal. Now he's better and even up on stage again. I think the best way to convince the skeptics is by healing more people. They can say it was spontaneous remission, but when you get five, six people in a row with spontaneous remissions, it's not very likely. And by doing these group healings you can see some really significant results. In the last one, I had a woman walk up and start dancing, and she couldn't bend her legs for several years.

CT: How many people have you helped?

ADAM: I've helped about a thousand individuals, but if you include group healings, it's probably many thousands. The main thing is, I'm trying to teach people how to heal themselves, because everyone does have the ability to do this.

CT: How do you choose whom you will treat?

ADAM: You can sort of tell by their e-mails whether it's a positive person who's got a healthy lifestyle and is really determined to get rid of [the illness]. Those are the ones I take on first because they respond far better to the treatments than those who are expecting a magic wand. There are some cases where people have come to me with cancer spread to every part of their bodies. They've got a couple of days to live. They've done chemo, radiation. There's nothing really I can do.

CT: What are your future plans?

ADAM: To do more group healings. I'm also writing a book -- my first was called DreamHealer. And I'm going to university in September. I want to
become a doctor. My long-term goal is to have a healing retreat that would integrate alternative and conventional medicine.

CT: How do you manage to do what you do and keep your identity secret?

ADAM: It's not something that gets talked about in teenage social life. Most of my friends know and they find it really cool. But I keep my social life and my healing separate. I like to go back to my suburban home and get away from all the healing. That's the reason I keep my anonymity, because I've had people come to my door. I need a life of my own.
