Dear Editor,

I was just introduced to your site by my son who is studying environmental engineering at Colorado School of Mines. I am a high school science teacher. Your topics interest me; however, I like to know the credentials of the author whose work I am reading.

In a biography search of Ken Adachi, I find his credentials and I also find that he died in 1998. Who is editing his website?

Thank you,

Diana

Hi Diana,

Let me address your question with a question:

Do you judge the merits of a thesis on the basis of the soundness of the arguments put forward to support that thesis or does your judgment hinge on the academic credentials of the author?

If the latter is the case, then you should not read anything that I've writtten because I have little regard for academic credentials as a basis for authority, recognition, or merit. The world is full of lying blowhards who affix letters after their names. I'm interested in the truth and I will take it from any mind that possesses it and I do not give a whit about academic pedigree-whether mine or anyone else's.

Concerning my demise in 1998. It hasn't been easy, but I think you can agree that I'm not doing bad for a guy who's been dead for nine years.

Kind Regards, Ken
