Mother of Injured Child Needs Legal Help to Reckon with Indifferent Georgia School Officials
[Editor's Note: This seems like a case of reckless endangerment and callous indifference after the fact. The teacher responsible for this event needs to be held responsible, along with the school system and county that she works for. Are there any hungry lawyers out there who can help this mother?..Ken]

To: EditorFirst of all, I'm not looking for charity and it's not an issue when our children are dying in the schools and getting seriously injured in Albany, Georgia. When your child comes home telling you her back is hurting because she fell off a truck, what would you do? What would you think?
Lord I fill out three to four different color emergency cards for contact, and not one of them was used. Now my child says "Mom I'm dying and by 2008, I will be dead." My heart flutters with every thought of this, to watch my child suffer daily and live with chronic pain all because her fifth grade teacher, Theodora Hanson, decides to have these innocent fith grade children put chairs on the back of a pickup truck, and then have them take them off and sit on the truck, which my daughter and two other girls sit on the tailgate holding a banner. Yet, she drive off in the truck and the kids fall off. She didn't even stop the truck to see if they were hurt, which they were.
The girls got up and had to walk where she parked the truck and they told her they needed to go to the school nurse, but she told them to wait until after the field day events which she had these hurt little girls participate in and not one time considering whether to get immediate care for them. Instead, she didn't care. Now my child suffers daily depression, fear and horrible pain. Someone please tell me what are we sending our children to school in Dougherty county other than to get an education?
My baby was an honor roll student. Now, she's left behind and facing another surgery. I die daily with trying to carry some of the pain and suffering that my child lives with, and the worst of all is to talk with one of our state reprentatives who told me and a friend that this is a "local issue" and the school system has no one over them. So there's "nothing we can do". But this is a horror. Since when did it become an issue whether there is an emergency on, are in a school system that the staff can't call 911 if someone has collapsed? Or until they get permission from a principal? Yet not even stop to get help for children or a child that might be seriously hurt. Well, one died and another one is dying daily.
GOD I know you are out there please help our children.
