Subject: Information
Dear sir,
We are a public interest, non profit institute for students with
low resources. We provide recognized university studies and certificates
in all major careers as most universities.
However, our difference with major universities is not only the absence
of fees to students of proven low resources, but one of our concerns is
to provide the widest possible knowledge to our graduates, including all
possible information on suppressed and edge science and research.
We would like how to order and pay for some of the books and booklets that your organization edits. In our Medical Engineering lab we also have some CS generators of simple manufacturing and we have read with interest the description of your deluxe generator. We cannot purchase one because we should need to pay for custom duties, would you consider to stipulate a price for the plans?
As we have a low budget, we would like to know if there is any volume discount or educative pricing for your published material and the shipping costs for the same.
We look forward to your reply

Hello Marilena,
The donations for the educational materials that are offered as premium
gifts are posted on my web site. The design of the deluxe CS generator
is proprietary information. I didn't answer you the first time because
I was less than thrilled with your request, as if I was running some sort
of well funded corporate money maker here. This is a non profit educational
"institution" of ONE working on a budget of 'hand to mouth'. As it is,
I low ball just about everything offered on the web site in order to allow
poorer people to obtain these materials. I can understand you making this
pitch to a larger corporate organization or government agency, but making
this request of me is a bit too much.
Sorry if I've offended you.
Sincerely, Ken Adachi

Dear Mr. Adachi;
Thank you for your reply, it certainly deserves an answer.
I proceed to answer within the body of the same for better reference:

Shall we say prices?

Of course it is. Nevertheless, many are the patents and copyrighted material which is commonly provided to educational institutes for the study and experimentation of students. This is a common practice of non commercial nature.

Sorry, but this is your mistake. You present yourself as a serious researcher
who commercializes (yes, the donation-gift front should not lure a child)
his research and publications for funding the continuance of his work.
We exchange material and funds with many such serious researchers around
the world and we happily contribute to their funding. Unfortunately in
your case (less than serious) you seem more concerned about income than
research.
>This is a non profit educational
>"instituion" of ONE working on a budget of 'hand to mouth'.
Sorry again, but you cannot claim educational if you are not providing planned and organized education, less than all non profit (even if may be not profitable in practice) unless your aims are non for profit which obviously are not. I suggest you call it Privately Funded Research Project and specify its more than low budget and need for support. True will carry you much further than imposture and certainly many will help you out more happily.

If you believe it...

Sorry but once again, this was your misunderstanding. What you call
a pitch
was an offer of two-ways help which you failed to understand and lost
away.
We were offering to buy ALL your material for a fair price which could
be
below the sum of all the individual prices. Doesn´t sound unreasonable,
does it?
We were further more proposing you to sell to us the use of the plans
of
your CS deluxe generator as a one time license for educational purposes
only, not even for assembly. Reasonable isn't it?
>Sorry if I've offended you.
You have not offended anyone else than yourself. You have changed your
image of serious and poorly funded researcher into a less-than-serious
and
profit-seeking private person.
We could have certainly feel happy of helping your research with our
contributions and we could have opened many doors for you as we have
made
with other researchers, not only in funding but in teaching and in
entering
in touch with persons and sponsors with same interests.
Unfortunately, this is no longer the case.
>Sincerely, Ken Adachi
Perhaps, Mr. Adachi, you come to realize, as many independent researchers (including myself) before, that we should all help each other and share our knowledge so real science advances further with no possible suppression. To live in a cocoon only facilitates the work of those who wish to leave all this knowledge as "borderlands" and "alternative" science. (Unless of course we only really mind about profit and power and we choose the classical way of keeping to ourselves the secrets until someone wants to pay the price we want)
Sincerely

Yes, and it also reflects the REAL Marilena: a bit reminiscent of
the Artful Dodger, all rags and alms wailing when it suits your purpose.

A character in a rather famous novel by Charles Dickens.
